My journey of finding out I was Pre-Diabetic

,

In 2023, I went through something I never expected. Over seven months, I gained 35 pounds—even though I was working out harder than I had in years and eating better than ever before in my life. But the extra weight was only part of it. I was exhausted all the time. My feet hurt and were swollen. I had one health issue after another, and nothing seemed to be improving.

I went to the doctor’s office over and over. Six different providers, ten appointments. I felt like I was being dismissed. All any of them would say was, “Watch your calories, everything you put in your mouth counts.” But the truth was, I was practically starving myself. Later, I found out I was malnourished. Something deeper was happening, and no one seemed to listen.

Finally, I found a doctor who did listen. After testing, she told me I was prediabetic. She explained something that changed my understanding: many believe obesity causes type 2 diabetes, but in reality, it’s like the chicken and the egg, which came first. Does obesity cause insulin resistance, or might insulin resistance lead toward obesity? In my case, the latter.

She wanted to put me on a GLP-1 medication. But insurance wouldn’t cover it, and I couldn’t find anywhere that had it. So instead, I tried metformin. Thankfully, it worked. I became more insulin sensitive, and over time I lost the 35 pounds.

In June 2025, I found out about microdosing GLP-1 and found a telehealth company where I could get it shipped directly to me for an affordable price. After knowing all the benefits of GLP-1, I was super excited to try it.

I’m so glad I did!! I have now been microdosing GLP-1 for 13 weeks, I’m down 11 lbs, I have lost a ton of inflammation that I didn’t even know I had and I have more energy. I feel better than I have in years.

What is Insulin Resistance—and Why It Matters

When your cells stop responding well to insulin, your body needs to produce more to keep blood sugar levels normal. Over time, this extra burden can lead to all kinds of symptoms: weight gain (especially around the belly), fatigue, swelling, sometimes pain, and eventually prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

Even more interesting, there’s evidence that before someone is overtly obese or diabetic, their body already shows reduced GLP-1 responses. GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar by increasing insulin secretion, slowing food passage through the intestine, and reducing appetite. In people with prediabetes or obesity, the GLP-1 response to a glucose load can already be blunted.

My Dad had type 2 diabetes and I know all of the dangers of the disease, including doubling your risk of Alzheimer’s!!! 🤯 I will do what it takes to hopefully keep myself from developing type 2 diabetes or at least, keeping it away as long as possible.

Microdose GLP-1 is considered safe to use long term and as of right now, I plan to stay on it. Here’s a link to what I’m using. It’s pharmaceutical grade which is a huge distinction over research grade (I will include another article with the difference between the two). Our telehealth company only uses 503A pharmacies – also an important distinction that I will layout in another post. 😊
